The election is over. Billions and billions of dollars spent and the balance of power in Washington is basically unchanged. Some think this is a bad thing, and some think it is a good thing. Do you want to know what I think? I think no matter what results were derived from this very expensive exercise, the rest of the world watches in awe as we go about our business of electing a President. Can you imaging how many people in the world right now would give anything to be able to exercise this privilege?

With the voting as tight as it was, I am sure we will be hearing from both the winners and the losers why the system is broken. Long lines at the polling places, long time voters being told they are not on the roles, people voting early and often. Yes, we have a huge sometimes clunky system for electing our leaders that with all of its faults, is the envy of the world.

There was a story out in the papers this past week about a group of Chinese students watching the US election with great interest. You see, the Chinese are going through a change in leadership right now as well, but it is being done in secret, with no input from the people. These students wanted to have a mock vote just to see how it feels to actually vote.

The US of A is sort of like a family member you disagree with. Its OK for me to pick on you, but heaven help the outsider who tries to pick a fight with my family member. We are the people of the United States of America. We are diverse yet united. We are divided yet one people. We have failings yet we are the greatest country in the world. We are the US of A. We have the most orderly succession plan in the world when it comes to changes in power.

Whether or not you liked the election results, it is time to pull together and work to fix the problems we have. Sitting back and saying I did not vote that way so there is no way I will get involved just doesn’t work. Lets make our elected officials get off their collective duffs and do what they were elected to do. This is how we keep America great.

There just is not enough inventory of homes on the market today to satisfy the buyers who are looking. We put up for a sale an older home, 4 sides brick, that was located along side a busy road. This home sold in less than 2 weeks for almost the entire list price! Why? Well several things. The home was in good condition and priced right. And, there are so few homes for sale in the area we stood out.

The couple who bought the home have 2 small children and loved the fenced back yard. The home is perfect for them. But, we turned away a bunch of other people who were also interested in the home. They were just not quick enough in this case to get the home.

So, 2 lessons learned here…If you are a seller, now is a great time to put your home on the market. Even though this is historically a slow time of the year, there is little competition right now which could help sell your home quickly. And second, if you are shopping for a new home and find something you like, make an offer. Those that are waiting are finding the house is sold already when they finally decide to do something.
